![]() ![]() I’ve seen people take that tactic with numerous other old, dead products in the past. SoftImage is no longer any real concern of ADSK these days, but they could THEORETICALLY just invalidate that 2nd hand license just to push you to move to Maya if they just got up on the wrong side of the greedy bed that day.īypassing both of those issues, you could just buy somebody’s old PC with SoftImage already installed and activated. By installing, activating, and/or running the app, you agree to the terms of that contract even if you didn’t bother to read it or try to understand it. Doing that invalidates the license, which would then allow them to deny your activation.ĮULAs aren’t law in and of themselves, but they are contracts and contracts are bound by law. In that spirit, ADSK licenses (iirc) expressly forbid that sort of license resale. It’s hard to do that when there’s a large resale market. Like all software devs, the goal is to push those new license sales. You might very well run into a EULA related issue. Suppose that you could obtain a copy AND activate it. ![]() I would expect that SoftImage might have the same issue. In similar fashion, Adobe had a habit of shutting down licensing servers on outdated, deprecated products outside of the support window. It might be safe to assume that “support” included the activation servers. SoftImage was discontinued in 2015 as a product and support was halted by mid-2016. Though I never owned SoftImage, I’m pretty sure that it used the same online activation tactic as other ADSK apps. Even if you do find a copy, I think that you might run into some snags.
